Two people died in separate single-vehicle wrecks east of Loris during the past week, one Thursday night, the other Saturday afternoon.
In both incidents a vehicle left the highway, struck a tree, killing the lone drivers, Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell of the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported.
Tommy B. Kempen, 46, of Rockingham died on the scene of the 8:15 p.m. crash Thursday on SC 9 near Liberty Church Road, Horry County Deputy Coroner Christopher Dontell said Tuesday.
Kempen was wearing a seat belt and died on the scene of the crash, Tidwell said. Kempen was driving a 2006 Pontiac G6, travelling north on SC 9 before it ran off the road on the right and struck a tree, Tidwell said.
Tara Anderson, 47, of Aynor died at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach following the 4 p.m. crash on SC 905 south of Longs, Horry County Deputy Coroner Patty Bellamy said.
Anderson was not wearing a seat belt, and was entrapped in the SUV, Tidwell said. She was transferred to the Myrtle Beach hospital after Horry County Fire Rescue crews removed her from the vehicle.
Anderson was driving a 2007 GMC Yukon, travelling south on SC 905, and drove left of the center line before leaving the highway and hitting a tree, Tidwell said.
