Lavenia Martin Huggins: Mount Olive

1936 – 2020

Lavenia Martin Huggins of the Mount Olive Community died at home Wednesday, Nov. 4, after a long illness. She was 84.

Funeral services were planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, burial, directed by Hardwick Funeral Home, following in the church cemetery.

Family planned to receive friends one hour before the service in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Annex.

Mrs. Huggins was born in Horry County, a daughter of Daniel Monroe Martin and Ruth Adell Grainger Martin. She was a graduate of Columbia College, and enjoyed a professional career as a home economics teacher at Mullins High School. She was an active member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she played piano, sang in the choir and served as teacher of the Dorcas Sunday School Class for many years.

Mrs. Huggins loved travel, and she was able to visit most of the 50 states during her lifetime. She loved music, and especially enjoyed singing hymns and playing the piano with her family. She loved spending time outdoors on her farm, in her yard and gardens and fishing with her husband and family. She was a servant in her community as she was always willing and eager to help people whenever she could. Her deep love for her Lord was seen in her servant heart and her love for her family and friends.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, William L. “Billy” Huggins; a son, Landis Huggins (Denise & Johnathan) of Mt. Olive; a daughter, Robin Poston (John) of Conway; three grandchildren, Henry Poston, Mary Poston and Abby Poston all of Conway; and two brothers, Eldon Martin and Windell Martin (Pat) both of Galivants Ferry.

Memorials may be made to Mount Olive Baptist Church, 1950 Mount Olive Church Road, Nichols, SC 29581.
