Eugene Carlisle Jackson: Green Sea

1941 – 2020

     Eugene Carlisle Jackson of Green Sea passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 18, surrounded by family at Duke University Hospital. He was 79.

     Born in 1941 to proud farmers and business owners AB and Tressie Jackson, Gene was the youngest of eleven children. A graduate of Tabor City High School, UNC Pembroke, and Winthrop University, Gene spent his adult life spreading his love of science and sports as both a teacher and coach. He adored guiding students in countless science fairs and brain games. Gene spent most of his career teaching chemistry and physics at Floyds and Green Sea Floyds High School.

     Gene married Susie McPherson, the love of his life, in 1966. He was a member of Green Sea Baptist Church and served as a deacon for many years. He loved his family, his students, his mountain house, researching genealogy, and building things.

     Gene is survived by his wife and best friend of nearly 60 years Sharon “Susie”; three lovely children, Todd (Cheryl), Georgiana, and Jason (Colleen); two usually sweet granddaughters, Romalea (8) and Kaira (5); brothers and sisters Bruce (Edna), Brooks (Patricia), and Louise (Tom) Martin; and more than 40 nieces and nephews.

     Gene was preceded in death by his parents, AB and Tressie; brothers and sisters Earl, Ruby Lee (Elwood) Dorman, Austin (Lois), Frank (Jean), Flora Mae (Fred) Simmons, Lois (Bill) Summerford, and James (Arlene).

     A celebration of life service was planned for 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at Green Sea Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Brust officiating, committal services following at Green Sea Cemetery.

     Family planned to receive visitors during the hour preceding the service in the Green Sea Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
