Jimmy Brooks Gore: Nakina
1934 – 2020
Jimmy Brooks Gore of Nakina passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, Nov. 20. He was 85.
He was born on Dec. 7, 1934, son of the late Vanderbilt and Ella Gore of the Gore Lake Community in Columbus County.
Brooks was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed spending time tending his garden. He was also a Carpentry and Agribusiness instructor at Southeastern Community College during the 1970’s. Mr. Gore was an active member of Seven Creeks Missionary Baptist Church where he achieved more than 30 years of perfect attendance. He was a charter member of the Nakina Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad and also served on the Board of Directors.
Mr. Gore was a proud member of Tabor City High School Class of 1953. He loved sports and spent many happy years playing men’s softball.
He is survived by his children, Rhonda Gore Etherden (Graham) and Donna Gore Bangco (Mario) of Conway, James Mark Gore (Cathy) daughter, Rachael Jackson and granddaughter, Audrey Housand) all of Nakina, Amy Gore Cox (Tim) of Loris; three grandchildren, Grace Cox Spencer (Tracy) of Loris, Coste Duvall (Ashley) of Columbia, Haley Duvall of Conway; one great-granddaughter, Cora Duvall; siblings Esther Moses and Paul Gore of Shallotte, Deloris McCumbee of Ash, Shelby Linton of Thorntown, Indiana, Ken Gore (Jane) of Nakina, Ann Worthington of Whiteville; and sister-in-law Faye Gore of Nakina.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Dewayne Stanley Gore, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Cecil Gore, JC Gore, Hazel Gore, Verna Gore, Waymon Gore, Bill Gore and Wade Gore.
Family would like to thank Dr. Richard Fleming, the staff of Whiteville Adult Medicine ,and his care providers from Well Care for their support during this time.
A graveside service was planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Gore Community Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Turner officiating.
