John Robert Curry: Whiteville

1945 – 2020

     John Robert Curry of Whiteville died Tuesday, Nov. 24, in his home. He was 74.

     Born Dec. 3, 1945 in New Hanover County, he was the son of the late Gilbert Curry, Sr. and Tina Mae Carter Curry Mintz.

     He was a veteran of the United States Army.

     He is survived by three daughters, Gina Curry Walters of Lumberton, Valerie Curry Owen of Four Oaks, and Candace Jones of Wilmington; a brother, Sidney Curry of West Point, Utah; two half-sister, Julia Campbell of Oxford, Alabama and Tina Albertson of Anniston, Alabama; and six grandchildren.

     He is also survived by his longtime companion, Patricia Leonard Hinson; and her children, Tonya Hinson of Whiteville and Rhonda Hinson of Conway.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert Curry, Jr.; and two sisters, Jackie Taylor and Ervil Reemsnyder.

     Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27 in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel, burial following in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.

     Visitation was planned for the hour preceding the service in the chapel.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 206 Warrior Trail, Whiteville, NC 28472.
