Alisa Joy Long Duncan: Shallotte
1958 – 2020
Alisa Joy Long Duncan of Shallotte died Friday, Dec. 18. She was 62.
Born July 15, 1958 in Columbus County and reared in Brunswick County, she was the daughter of Betty Worrell Long and the late Otha J. Long.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Thomas G. Duncan, Jr.; a daughter, Aimee R. Duncan of Ash; two sons, Thomas G. Duncan III of Shallotte and Benjamin W. Duncan (Raven) of Ash; two sisters, Becky Long (Harry) of Wilmington and Tina L. Wilson (Butch) of Ash; three grandchildren, Landon T. Duncan, Jesse J. Duncan and Maggie Jane Duncan.
Throughout her life, Alisa loved working with children. She taught pre-school for a number of years before returning to UNCW to earn her education degree. She then taught at Jessie Mae Monroe School until her retirement.
Alisa was a member of the Shallotte Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was especially talented at arranging fun-filled family nights at the church.
Above all, Alisa’s greatest asset was her tremendous heart filled with love, kindness and generosity towards her family, her friends and anyone who needed her help. This, along with a delightfully mischievous sense of humor, means her passing has left a great, great sadness and void. But, what a legacy and example she leaves behind. In this we are truly blessed.
A graveside service was planned for 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, in the Duncan Cemetery, Tabor City.
A guest register is available here.
