Joan Graham Tyler: Loris
1933 – 2020
On Sunday, Dec. 27, Joan Graham Taylor of Loris, loving mother of two children, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren passed into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 87.
Joan Patricia Graham was born Aug. 6 1933 in Loris to James Quincy Graham, Sr. and Janie Morrisey Graham.
Joan received a BA degree in Education from Limestone College in 1956, and went on to teach math at Loris High School for 16 years. Joan then continued her career as Events Manager at St. Johns Inn in Myrtle Beach for nearly 21 years.
“Pretty” as she was nicknamed, was preceded in death by parents James Quincy Graham, Sr. and Janie Morrisey Graham; brother Alfred Dockery Graham; sister Marian Graham Garrell; and brother James Quincy Graham, Jr.
She is survived by her brother, Maurice “Pop” Graham and wife Laverne of Loris.
Also surviving are her son Walter Newton Taylor, Jr. (Dragana) of Myrtle Beach and Alisa Dew (Linley) of Sunset Beach. Joan’s grandchildren are Lindsey Stuteville (Brian) of Carolina Shores, Lauren Ashley Taylor of New York, New York, John Kyle Downing of Sunset Beach, and Nicole Alexandra Taylor of San Diego, California. Her beautiful great-grandchildren are Landon Stuteville, Kylie Stuteville, and Noah Stuteville all from Carolina Shores.
Joan will be forever missed by her family and friends. She was always a thoughtful, courteous, and loving person who went out of her way to treat everyone with kindness. As a lifelong member of Loris First United Methodist Church, Joan was loved by all.
Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Loris First United Methodist Church with Pastor Bruce Adams officiating, committal services following in Patterson Cemetery.
Family planned to receive friends during the hour preceding the service in the church fellowship hall.
