David Eugene (Gene) West: Tabor City

1937 – 2021

     David Eugene (Gene) West of Tabor City passed away at McLeod Loris hospital, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, Jan. 4. He was 83.

     He was born Dec. 1, 1937 to the late Thomas J. West and Mamie T. West of Mullins. In addition to his parents, Gene was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Randall (Randy) West.

     He was a graduate of Mullins High School and DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. He was employed with WENC and WTAB radio stations, then retired with a 30 year career with Columbus County Schools as an Audio-Visual Technician. He was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and also a Master Mason of Tabor Lodge 563.

     Surviving in addition to his wife, Evelyn Cribb West; are his daughter, Melissa Chandler (Terry) of Whiteville; a grandson, Weston Thomas Chandler of Clarendon; and a sister, Joyce West Lett of Mullins.

     A graveside service was planned for 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, in Myrtle Green Cemetery, Tabor City with the Rev. Seyun Hwang and Rev. Buddy Seay officiating.

     Visitation was planned following the service in the cemetery.

     In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 410 East 5th St., Tabor City, NC 28463.
