Shelby Dean Blanton Strickland: Leland

1935 – 2021

     Shelby Dean Blanton Strickland of Leland passed away on Friday, Feb. 26, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. She was 85.

     Mrs. Strickland was born Feb. 28, 1935, to the late Everette Blanton and the late Rhoda Graham Blanton. Ms. Strickland was the original owner of Dazzlers Hair Salon in Leland until her retirement. She was a longtime active member of Elah Baptist Church in Leland.

     Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Strickland Williams, and grandson Garrett Mathew Williams, both of Leland; and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.

     In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her ex-husband, Charles Wayne Strickland; three brothers, “Baby Ray” Blanton, Ansel Blanton, and D.M. Blanton; three sisters, Eloise Brown, Trevado B. Cannon, and Genevieve B. Skipper; and one infant sister, Peggy Blanton.

     Graveside services were planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at Twin City Memorial Gardens with Pastor Kenneth Long officiating.

     Family planned a public viewing and to receive friends a half-hour preceding the service, and immediately following at Twin City Memorial Gardens.
