Friends trying to rush a local man stabbed in the head to the nearest hospital were stopped by police in Tabor City Monday evening, the victim diverted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington by AirLink helicopter.

Shikei Reakwon Daniels, 24, Ten Mile Road, Tabor City, was a passenger in the 2009 Acura driven by Jaylan Dajuwuan Sumpter, 24, of North Lewis Street, Tabor City, stopped for speeding and running a stop light on U.S. 701 Bypass at Pireway Road at about 8:10 p.m., a report by Officer Nick Forster said.

Daniels was injured during a brawl on Williams Road, Chadbourn, Columbus County Sheriff’s spokesperson Michele Tatum said. An incident report by Deputy Joshua Cox listed crimes of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, simple assault, and assault by pointing a gun.

Daniels, in the front passenger seat of Sumpter’s car, “was holding a shirt to his face and stated that he had been stabbed and they were attempting to get to the hospital in Loris,” the TCPD report said.

Daniels told police “he had been stabbed by an unknown individual while a dispute over money occurred,” Forster reported.

A Tabor City Emergency Services ambulance crew treated Daniels and called for the AirLink helicopter, which landed at the nearby Tabor City Sports Complex football field with assistance from the Tabor City Fire Department.

In addition to Daniels, the sheriff’s report listed three other victims, including Leo Quinterio Daniels, 45, of the same  Ten Mile Road address as Shikei Daniels; Denesha Botashen Jackson, 21, of Williams Road, Chadbourn; and Lakena McArthur, 22, of Four Oaks Drive, Whiteville.

Nine suspects were listed, Tatum said, including at least one juvenile, age 16, and two others for whom ages were not shown.
