Franklin Jernigan: Fairmont

1944 – 2021

     Franklin Jernigan of Fairmont passed away Sunday, July 25, at his home. He was 77.

     He was born Feb. 18, 1944, in Horry County. He was a member of Fairmont First Baptist Church where he previously served as a deacon. He was well known as a football coach and assistant at schools that included Tabor City High School, South Columbus High School, and Fairmont High School.

     Franklin was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Dewey Jernigan; his mother, Cecil Bell Jernigan; a brother, Wayne Jernigan; and a granddaughter.

     He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mary Jernigan of the home; four children, Clay Jernigan of Lumberton, Temperance Perez of Deltona, Florida, Cameron Jernigan of Myrtle Beach, and Hunter Carver; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

     A graveside service was planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, at Floyd Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was planned for the hour preceding the service at the cemetery.

     A memorial service was also planned for 5 p.m. Wednesday July 28, at Fairmont High School Football Field in Fairmont.
