Virginia Katherine Coleman: Tabor City

1927 – 2021

     Virginia Katherine “Kat” Coleman of Tabor City left her earthly struggles on Thursday, Aug. 19, at the age of 94 at her home with her three children by her side and is now with her Lord and Savior.

     She was a Godly wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved her family, church, and friends. Kat enjoyed cooking, traveling, gardening and reading. She was a member of the Tabor City Baptist Church and a founding member of the Dirt Daubers Garden Club.

     She was born March 5, 1927 in Marion County. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence Gilbert Poston and Bertha Alma Ard Poston and the widow of Joseph Elwood Coleman, Sr.

     She is survived by son Joseph E. Coleman, Jr. (Deb); daughter Sherry Coleman Loflin; son Richard Poston Coleman (Cathy); grandchildren Richard Coleman, Jr. (Heather), Bradley Loflin (Molly), Jesse Coleman (Amber), Nicole Melton (Adam), Christian Coleman; great grandchildren Sawyer Coleman, Bryson Coleman, Cooper Coleman, Brody Coleman, Madeline Loflin, Abigail Loflin, Finley Melton, Hadley Melton, Blakely Melton; and a sister, Margaret Earley.

     In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence A. Poston.

     A graveside service was planned for 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, in Coleman Cemetery officiated by Rev. Earl Pivey, with Pallbearers Richard Coleman, Bradley Loflin, Jesse Coleman, Christian Coleman, Adam Melton and Jimmie Hewett.

     Family planned to receive friends after the service in the cemetery.
