LaSandra Strickland Grimsley: Florence

1955 – 2021

     LaSandra Strickland Grimsley of Florence went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 23. She was 66.

     Mrs. Grimsley was born a daughter of Gerata Grainger Strickland and the late William Dailey Strickland. She was a member of Wannamaker Baptist Church and an accomplished organist and pianist.

     Mrs. Grimsley earned two Masters Degrees and worked in education for more than 30 years. She was awarded Teacher of the Year in Florence County and in Chesterfield County. She served as President/Secretary/and Treasurer of the Florence Methodist Spouses Group for many years. She was deeply committed to this organization.

     In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Reverend Preston Grimsley; brothers William Franklin Strickland and Alvie Dailey Strickland (Kelly); sister Angelia Mae Strickland Williamson (Shane); brother-in-law Phil Grimsley (Sandra); nieces and nephews, George Strickland, Scott Strickland, Daniel Strickland, Brice Williamson, Maggie Vollrath, Shayna Fitzgerald, Ryann Grace Williamson, Jessie Grimsley, Phillip Grimsley, April Cockfield, Jennifer Stone, and John Arnold; and special friend, Marty Neal.

     Her funeral service will be held at noon Friday, Aug. 27, at the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel, Florence, committal service at 4 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols.

     Family planned to receive friends during the hour preceding the service at the funeral home.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church, 5422 East Old Marion Highway, Florence, SC 29506 , Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 13502, Florence, SC 29504 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

     Family extends a special thanks to Fresenius Dialysis Center, Dr. Maqsood and the staff with McLeod Home Health and Physical Therapy, to the nurses at McLeod and Stacey Driggers, caretaker and friend.
