Lela Mae Hawes Ward: Nakina
1933 – 2021
Lela Mae Hawes Ward of Nakina died Friday, Sept. 10, in Premier Living, Lake Waccamaw. She was 88.
Born Aug. 5, 1933 in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Vance Hawes and Evie Reaves Hawes and the widow of Donnie Pershing Ward.
She is survived by four daughters, Bonnie Long and Jane Harrelson of Whiteville, Shirley Price of Nakina, and Wanda Jones of Supply; two specially loved sons, Tom Ward and Freddie Ward of Nakina; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and two special nieces, Cindy Davis and Sherri Robeson of Ash.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, James Donnie Ward and Charles Danny (Pete) Ward.
A graveside service was planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, in Ward Cemetery, Mooney Ford Road, Nakina.
Family planned to receive friends following the service in the cemetery.
