Lois Onita Cox: Loris

1924 – 2022

     Lois Onita Cox of the Simpson Creek Community, Loris passed away on June 13 at Loris Rehab and Nursing Center. She was 97.

     Ms. Cox was born July 29, 1924, the oldest child of the late John Quincy Cox and Lena Skipper Cox. She lived on the farm where she was born until age 92 before entering Loris Rehab And Nursing Center. She worked on the farm, cooked many meals for immediate and extended family, made beautiful clothes for her sister and nieces, made many extraordinary quilts, and enjoyed cross-stitching and sharing her work with others. She had many talents and always enjoyed sharing. She lived with and cared for her parents in their home until their deaths, then continued to maintain the home place and welcome those who visited.

     Survivors include her two sisters, Elaine Cox Squires of Aynor and Hilda Cox Goode of Charleston. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly and was like a second mother.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Cox was predeceased by two sisters, Letha Cox Powers and Dorothy Cox Hardee; and two brothers, Linford Cox and Elvis Cox.

     Family would like to thank the staff of Loris Rehab and Nursing Center for their loving care over the past five and a half years.

     Funeral services were planned for 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Hardwick Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mack Hutson officiating. Private committal services were planned.

     Family planned to receive friends during the hour preceding the services.
