Mortie Godwin McPherson: Clarendon

1928 – 2022

     Mortie Godwin McPherson of the Beaverdam community, Clarendon, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 30, in her home surrounded by her loving family.

     Born Oct. 19, 1928 in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Godwin and Martine McPherson Godwin and widow of W.J. McPherson.

     She was a member of Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church.

     She is survived by two sons, Tony (Sue) McPherson of Riegelwood and Jackie (Donna) McPherson of Clarendon; four daughters, Linda (Billy) Gore, Jeanie (Jesse) Beck, and Deborah (Jerry) Godwin of Clarendon, and Jamy (Russell) Swanger of Augusta, Georgia; a sister, Myrtie Sellers of Whiteville; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-six great grandchildren.

     In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, William “Bill” Godwin, Alvie Godwin, Harvey Godwin and Waylon Godwin; and two sisters, Eva Walker and Mattie McPherson.

     Visitation was planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 2, in Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church.

     Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, July 3, in Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church, burial following in McPherson Cemetery, Chadbourn.
