Russell Lee Avins: Sumter

1958 – 2022

     Russell Lee “Rusty” Avins of Sumter died Wednesday, Aug. 24, at his home. He was 63.

     Born Dec. 10, 1958, in Sumter, he was a son of the late James Nunnery Avins and the late Mary Elizabeth “Peggy” Williams Nealy.

     He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of the Southeastern Beagle Foxhound Association.

     Survivors include siblings, Zelda Avins and Sheila Avins Hendrix (Randy) both of Tabor City, Sabrina Stallings of Kinston, Chandler VanGuilder of Pennsylvania, Shirley Perritte of Whiteville, and Keith Hodge of Sumter; a special friend, Ginny Holland; nieces and nephews Nicole Norris, Jamie Norris, Colby Avins, Hayden Auvil, William Perritte, Abby Perritte, Stacy VanGuilder, Stephanie VanGuilder, Haleigh Ham, Harley Duran, Houston Duran, and Hines Duran; a special cousin and work partner, Alvin Avins; and many special friends.

     Family planned to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium in Sumter, and at other times at 2265 Hwy 521 South, Sumter.

     A graveside service was planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, in the Calvary Nazarene Church Cemetery in Sumter.
