Lillie Grey McCumbee Strickland: Loris

1932 – 2022

     Lillie Grey McCumbee Strickland of Loris passed away on Saturday, Oct. 22, at McLeod Loris hospital. She was 89.

     Born Oct. 25, 1932 in Tabor City, she was the daughter of the late Hebron McCumbee and the late Juanita Grice McCumbee. She was a long time member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend.

     Survivors include her three sons, Gary G. Strickland (Sherry) of Nichols, Daryl L. Strickland (Connie) of Myrtle Beach, and Dana K. Strickland (Crystal) of Aynor; eight grandchildren, Scott Strickland (Paige), Kevin Strickland (Jessica), Jada McDaniel (Will), Joy Wilson (Julian), Seals Johnson (Carrie), Cassie Martin (Brett), Candace Faircloth (Randall), and Brooke Long (Chris); fourteen great-grandchildren; brother, Bobby McCumbee of Tabor City, NC; Vinson and Laura Powers whom she thought of as her own and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.

     In addition to her parents, Mrs. Strickland was predeceased by her husband, Marvin Guthrie Strickland; a special friend, Lloyd Powers; a brother, Billy McCumbee; and three sisters, Mildred Prince, Mae Clemmons, and Doris Miller.

     Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Hardwick Memorial Chapel with Rev. James Shelley officiating, committal services following at Twin City Memorial Gardens.

     Family planned to receive friends during the hour preceding the services at the chapel.
