Elsie Ruth Becknell LeGrande: Loris

1929 – 2023

     Elsie Ruth Becknell LeGrande of Loris was greeted home by Jesus Christ on Jan. 22. She was 93.

     Elsie, as she preferred to be called, was born in Columbia, a daughter of the late Lawrence Erskin Becknell and Cora Lee Davis.

     In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, John W. A. LeGrande; one brother, John A. Becknell; and three sisters, Betty Welch, Frances Rich, and Peggy Buss.

     Surviving are her six children; Karen LeGrande of Columbia, Steve LeGrande of Lexington, Michelle LeGrande Hawkins of Easley, David LeGrande of Elgin, Susan LeGrande Kelley of Walhalla and Gayle LeGrande Steele of Lexington; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.

     Services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at Jackson Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Mack Hutson officiated.

     In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to a veterans support group or the Gideon’s.
