UPDATE

An autopsy and further testing is needed, but preliminary indications are that “no foul play is suspected” in the death of a person whose body was found in a wooded area just outside of Loris Monday afternoon, Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said Tuesday.

Found at about 4:20 p.m., the body was “in an advanced state of decomposition,” Willard said.

If the final determination is that the person died of natural causes, Willard said the name will not be released.

Original post

A “decomposed” body was discovered in a wooded area just outside the Loris city limits behind Food Lion Monday afternoon.

“We were asked to go out and check, but by the time our officers got there county officers were there,” Loris Police Chief Gary Buley said.

City limit lines in that area are somewhat narrow along US 701, and the body was located beyond Loris’ jurisdiction. Additional information was not immediately available.
