Boil water advisory for part Richard Wright Road

A contractor’s mishap has prompted a boil water advisory for a portion of Richard Wright Road near Tabor City.

All customers between 4205 and 6334 Richard Wright Road are impacted after contractors bored into a Columbus County Water District 1 water line, a news release from Columbus County Public Utilities said.

“Due to local contractors reversing the flow of water throughout the system, customers may experience water quality issues such as discolored water,” the news release, sent just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday said. “Customers that experience problems with discolored water will need to contact the afterhours telephone number, 910-770-2158, to report concerns.

“Staff will be working diligently to monitor potential issues that may arise.”

While the system should be clear within 24 hours, the county staff recommends “that water used for consumption should be boiled during the next 24 hours.”
