Rebecca J. Suggs: Loris
1934 – 2023
Rebecca J. Suggs of Loris passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, at McLeod Seacoast hospital. She was 89.
Born Sept. 12, 1934 in the Maple Community of Horry County, she was the daughter of Mr. James Pinkney Jordan and Mrs. Lettie Edge Jordan.
After graduating from Conway High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Mrs. Suggs attended Berry College in Rome, Georgia graduating in 1957 with a degree in elementary education. That same year she married, moved to Loris, and was a sixth-grade teacher at Loris Elementary School for several years before becoming a stay-at-home mother to her two sons.
Mrs. Suggs was a member of Loris Methodist Church and was employed as church secretary for more than 20 years. Prior to suffering a stroke in 2010, she was very active in her church and served at various times as church treasurer, financial secretary, a member of the administrative board and finance committee, was a Vacation Bible School teacher and a former member of the Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Suggs was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Edward C. Suggs; her brother Samuel B. Jordan; and two sisters, Barbara J. Johstono and Joann J. Shores.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael E. Suggs and Gregory C. Suggs; daughter-in-law Beth T. Suggs; two grandsons, Thomas J. Suggs and Austin T. Suggs; and her sister, Marva Lee Antley of Hanahan.
Visitation was planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at Hardwick Funeral Home of Loris and again from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at the Loris Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
Funeral Services were planned for 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Loris Methodist Church with Rev. E. Bruce Adams officiating, burial following in Patterson Cemetery.
