Police are asking for help from the public in identifying a masked man who robbed the Tabor City Dollar General at gunpoint Sunday night.

Wearing a black mask and a hoodie, the suspect who appeared to be a black man entered the Dollar General at 9:46 p.m., demanded cash, and after he “retrieved the money he struck out across the Atlantic Publishing parking lot, got into a vehicle, and took off,” said Capt. Jeffrey Fowler of the Tabor City Police Department.

Surveillance video indicates that the man never took off his mask while in sight of the camera, Fowler said. Exterior video shows the man leaving in a dark mid-sized sedan, Fowler said. Police are trying to determine more about the make and model of the car.

Though the robber “showed a gun,” Fowler said no shots were fired, and no one was hurt.

Anyone with information on the robbery, or the man shown in the image taken from surveillance video, is asked to contact the Tabor City Police Department.

Look for more information here as it becomes available, and in the Tabor-Loris Tribune in print and online.
