Dowless awarded Tabor Medal; business, service, volunteer awards given

Recently retired Tabor City Police Department Chief Donald Dowless was named Citizen of the Year during Tuesday’s 80th annual banquet of the Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce.
Business of the Year honors went to Fowler’s Grill, with the town’s Public Works Director Mitchell Fowler receiving a service award, Brian Perry named Volunteer of the Year.
Tabor City Committee of 100 Membership Chair Bradley Bell presented the keynote address, outlining an internship program recently launched by the local economic development group. His talk echoed the banquet theme, “Today’s Youth – Tomorrow’s Leaders.”
A big crowd was gathered at The Todd House Wedding & Event Center for the fete, catered by MacDaddy’s BBQ & Country Cooking.

Current and continuing Chamber President Marylou Molina presided over the evening and made the award presentations. Columbus County Clerk of Court Jess Hill administered the oath of office to Molina, Vice President Kandi Dill, and new board member Melody Spivey. An invocation/blessing and benediction was given by Gapway Baptist Church pastor Rev. Larry Greenwood.
