Mary Estelle Smith: Tabor City

1933 – 2026

     Mary Estelle Smith of Tabor City died Friday, May 1, in her daughter’s home. She was 92.

     Born in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late George Kendall Andrews and Ethel Todd Andrews.

     She is survived by two sons, Lanford Smith Jr. and wife Gayle of Tabor City and Michael Wayne Smith and wife Michelle of Roanoke, Virginia; one daughter, Deborah Smith Ward and husband Harold of Whiteville; three sisters, Hazel Pigott, Bonnie Miller, Wanda Thompson all of Tabor City; five grandchildren, Crystal Reilly (Joshua), Brian Ward (Angie Davis), Brad Ward (Lauren), Kyra Smith, Andrew Smith, Rachel Austin, Travis Andrews; eight great grandchildren, Erin, Isabella, Caralena, Greenlea, Brinkley, McKenna, Gabriel, and Sutton.

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lanford Smith; one brother, G.K Andrews; and a sister, Estalene York.

     She was a member of Old Zion Church where her funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, with Rev. Joshua Reilly officiating, burial following in the Old Zion Cemetery.

     Visitation was planned for the hour preceding the service in the church.
