Ira William Edwards:Newport News, Va.

1937 – 2026

     Ira “Bill” William Edwards of Newport News, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, May 14, surrounded by his loving family. He was 88.

     Born May 31, 1937, in Avery County, he was the son of the late Glennwood B. Edwards and Ruth Virginia Vance Edwards.

     He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served his country.

     He is survived by one son, Robert “Danny” Edwards of Hampton, Virginia; two daughters, Sherry Riffe of York County, Virginia and Diane Oliver of Williamsburg, Virginia; four grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and other extended family.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Mae Arnette Edwards.

     Graveside services, with military honors, were planned for noon Saturday, May 23, in Myrtle Green Cemetery, Tabor City.
