Sherwood Spivey: Tabor City
1939 – 2026
Sherwood Spivey of Tabor City passed away on Thursday, June 11, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 87.
Born June 9, 1939 in Columbus County, he was the son of Hilton James Spivey and Lula Watts Spivey.
He was a member of Jones Street Baptist Church. He was a former employee of National Spinning and also owned and operated “Sherwood’s Garage” from 1975 to 1997.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many that enjoyed spending time talking, taking care of his farm pond, and fishing with his great granddaughter, Bailey Grace.
He is survived by his wife Corrie Canard Spivey of the home; one son, Timothy Spivey (Tara Walker Spivey) of Tabor City; a daughter, Shannon Ray of Tabor City; two grandsons, Jeramy Spivey of Denver, Colorado and Nicholas Ray of Tabor City; one granddaughter, Page Spivey Edwards (Gil Edwards) of Carolina Forest; two great granddaughters, Bailey Spivey and Lily Edwards of Carolina Forest; one sister, Peggy Strickland of Tabor City; a niece, Misty Jorgensen of Tabor City; one nephew, Matthew Spivey of Castle Hayne; former son in-law Bobby Ray of Hallsboro; and many other loving friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Tab Lamar Spivey; a sister, Patricia Jorgensen; and one brother, Elwood Spivey.
Family would like to especially thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice, Dr. Henry Traylor and the staff of Whiteville Medical Associates; and Dr. Hugh Daniel and staff of East Carolina Surgical. Family would also like to say a special thank you to Walt Munroe for the continuous gesture of kindness throughout the past few months.
Visitation was planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 12, in Inman Ward Funeral Home.
Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, in Spivey Cemetery.
