Joseph Hal Hughes, Sr.: Loris

1946 – 2026

     Joseph Hal Hughes, Sr. of Loris passed away on Tuesday, June 9, at his home. He was 79.

     Born Oct. 17, 1946, in Loris, he was the son of the late Rev. Thomas Edward Hughes and the late Amanda Pauline Housand Hughes.

     Survivors include his loving wife, Ann Hughes; a daughter, Angela “Angie” Hughes McGuire; one son, Terry Jeffcoat; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

     In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was predeceased by his son, Joseph Hal “Little Hal” Hughes, Jr.; a daughter, Fawn Hughes Norris; brothers Wayne Hughes, Ricky Hughes, Lenford Hughes, Douglas Hughes, and Windell Hughes; and sisters Shirley Shannon, and Brenda Stevens.

     Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 12, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Mack Hutson officiating. Committal services followed at Thomas Hughes Family Cemetery.
