Martha Lou Hilbourn Elliott: Tabor City

1934 – 2023

     Martha Lou Hilbourn Elliott of Tabor City died Thursday, Aug. 24, in her home. She was 89.

     Born June 6, 1934 in Columbus County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Johnny Hilbourn and Leatha Edwards Hilbourn and the widow of Robert Vance Elliott, Jr.

     She is survived by one son, Garel Gene Elliott of Nichols; three daughters, Pansy Kay Lawson of the home, Cheryl Elliott Shepherd of Fair Bluff, and Cynthia Elliott Barnhill of Fair Bluff; twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and three sisters, Reba Nobles, Rebecca Burch and Mary Britt, all of Lexington.

     In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two sons, Carlton Ray Elliott, and Randolph Elliott; four brothers, Dewey Hilbourn, Paul Hilbourn, Hubert Hilbourn, and Oliver Hilbourn; three sisters, Frosty Edwards, Snowy Hammonds, and Dorothy Strickland; and two grandsons.

     Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel, burial following in the Porter Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery.

     Visitation was planned for the hour preceding services in the chapel.
