Larry Gay Hewett: Tabor City
1952 – 2024
Larry Gay Hewett of Tabor City died Tuesday, June 18, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Whiteville. He was 71.
Born Nov. 28, 1952, in Tabor City, he was the son of the late Willie Hewett and Lucille Hardy Hewett.
In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his brother, Jan Hewett.
He is survived by one brother, Gene Hewett (Dee) of Jacksonville, Florida; best friend and caregiver Mark Coleman; best friends Jane and Jonathan Coleman; and his fur baby “Presley.”
Larry was employed with the Columbus County Schools for several years, serving as an art teacher and later as an AIG teacher until his retirement. After retiring, Larry devoted his time to his artwork and volunteer work at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center.
A memorial service was planned for 2 p.m. Monday, June 24, in Clarendon Baptist Church with Pastor Ryan Edwards officiating.
Visitation was planned from 1 to 1:45 p.m., preceding the service, in the church.
