Fire training center

Work on a new fire training center for the Tabor City Fire Department, located next to the town’s Public Works Building in the Tabor Industrial Park, is making rapid progress, Fire Chief Jeff Fowler said. Using used shipping containers the three story main structure and adjacent one-story container will offer a variety of training opportunities including working in heavy smoke, confined space rescue, and more. Chief Fowler and Jamie Nobles, above, were guiding a pole in place with Mitchell Fowler at the backhoe recently. The poles will serve as frames for stairs leading to the upper floors. Special equipment was leased to place the containers. Fowler said the $70,000 project has been funded through efforts of the department’s auxiliary. (Deuce Niven, TLT)
