A potential tropical cyclone that threatens flash flooding and gusty winds has prompted the Columbus County and Horry County school districts to revert to remote learning for all students on Monday, Sept. 16.
Students and staff in the Columbus County Schools were instructed by text message and recorded phone messages Sunday to check Google Classroom for assignments.
eLearning for the Horry County Schools will impact students and staff, with opportunities later for those unable to take part due to power outage or other technical barriers.
All after school and extracurricular activities for the day are cancelled across both school districts.
A potential for flash flooding due to the storm is described as “moderate threat” by the National Weather Services. Low-lying roads or those near flood prone locations may become impassable, and the NWS urges motorists not to cross flooded roadways.
Rainfall total estimates from the NWS range from 3 to 6 inches between 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 p.m. Wednesday, with heavy rainfall Sunday night into Monday.
