Dulah Lee Tompkins Hammonds: Chadbourn

1940 – 2026

     Dulah Lee Tompkins Hammonds of Chadbourn died on Monday, May 11, in Columbus Regional Healthcare in Whiteville. She was 85.

     Dulah was born on Oct. 26, 1940, a daughter of the late Arthur Lee Tompkins and Annie Rebecca Spivey Tompkins. She was also the widow of Derrell Purvis Hammonds, Sr. and in addition, was pre-deceased by two siblings, Dorothy Lewis and Glenwood Tompkins.

     Surviving family includes her daughter, Candace Hammonds Conway (Steven) of Wilmington; a son, Derrell Purvis Hammonds, Jr. (Kimberly) of Chadbourn; grandchildren Gage Landon Hammonds and Dawson Reid Hammonds; siblings Elwood Tompkins, Arthur Tompkins, Jr. (Annette), Katie Fowler (Othell), Eugene Tompkins (Linda), Judy James (Bobby); and a host of nieces and nephews.

     Funeral service were planned for 3 p.m. Friday, May 15, at Worthington Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Crumpler officiating, burial following in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery.

     Family planned to speak to friends prior to the service from 2:00-2:45 p.m. in the chapel.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chadbourn Baptist Church.
