Sammy Simmons: Tabor City

1953 – 2026

     Sammy Simmons of Tabor City passed away peacefully on June 30. He was 72.

     Born on November 21, 1953, in Loris, South Carolina, Sammy was the son of the late Dewey Simmons and Hazel McPherson Simmons.

     Sammy was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Sherry Simmons, and a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

     He is survived by his son, Scottie Simmons and wife, Rose Ann Simmons, of Winterville, and their sons, Owen and Ethan Simmons; and by his daughter, Sheila Wilson and husband, Rodney Wilson Jr., of Lake Waccamaw, and their daughters, Katie and Kinsley Wilson. He is also survived by his brothers, Gary Simmons and wife, Teresa; Danny Simmons and wife, Lucille; and Frankie Simmons and wife, Sara.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Gene McPherson and Greg Simmons.

     Sammy dedicated many years of his career to construction before retiring from International Paper. He was a faithful member of Beaverdam Church, where he enjoyed worship and fellowship with his church family.

     A true outdoorsman, Sammy found peace and happiness with a fishing rod in his hand. Whether casting a line on a quiet morning or spending time with family, he appreciated life’s simple blessings. Above all else, he loved his family deeply and treasured every moment spent with them. His quiet strength, hardworking nature, gentle spirit, and steadfast love will be remembered always by those who knew and loved him.

     Funeral services were planned for 3 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church, burial following in McPherson Cemetery.

     Visitation was planned for the hour preceding services.

     The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the prayers, kindness, and support shown during this difficult time. Sammy’s legacy of faith, hard work, love, and devotion to his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
