Franklin Delano Hooks: Chadbourn

Franklin Delano Hooks of Chadbourn, died Thursday, Nov. 29, in Lower Cape Fear Hospice Angel House, Whiteville. He was 79.
Mr. Hooks grew up in the Mt. Olive section of Horry Co. He was the son of the late Walter Jesse and Ellen Page Hooks. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Alec Quincy “AQ” Hooks.
He was a 1951 graduate of Floyds High School, earned a Bachelor of Arts from Carson Newman College, a Master of Education from Campbell University, a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from Luther Rice Seminary. He was on the faculty of North Greenville College, was the Minister of Music and Youth at First Baptist Church in Hampton, SC until 1962, was Associate Minister, Minister of Music and Youth at Tabor City Baptist Church 1962-1975, was Associate Minister, Minister of Music and Youth at Elizabethtown Baptist Church from 1975 until his retirement in 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Derotha Gore Hooks; two daughters: Kaye Henry (Stephen) of Oxford, GA and Sanda Minor (David) of Pittsboro; three sisters: Ophelia Duncan and Opal Fax both of Nichols, and Patsy (Luther) Floyd of Florence; two grandchildren: Hannah Henry of Macon, Ga. and Sarah Henry of Savannah, Ga.; nieces Donna Hooks of Myrtle Beach, and Beverly Brogden of Nichols; and nephew Greg Hooks of Spartanburg.
Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, in Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church by Rev. Buddy Seay. Burial followed in McPherson Cemetery.
