Esther Rogers Phelps: Tabor City

    Esther Rogers Phelps of Tabor City, formerly of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, Dec. 19 in Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. She was 96.
    Born in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late Paschal Haywood and Mattie Belle Rachels Rogers. She was the widow of the late Henry C. Phelps.
    Mrs. Phelps was also preceded in death by five brothers:  Artis Rogers, Leonard Rogers, Tommy Rogers, Ernest Rogers and Haywood Rogers; six sisters:  Beulah Kelly, Gracie Rogers, Mattie Pearl Rogers, Elva Ferguson, Margaret Harrington and Ruby Scoggins.
    Mrs. Phelps was a member of Jones Street Missionary Baptist Church, Tabor City and a former member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Sanford.
    She is survived by one son, David E. Harris and wife Teresa of Tabor City; three grandchildren:  James Wesley Harris, Grayson Lindley Harris, Leighton Edward Harris; two great grandchildren:  Olivia Harris and Donovan Harris.
    Visitation was planned from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21 in Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City.
    Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 in Jones Street Missionary Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Kenneth Smith. Interment was to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
