Dale Thaggard Hair: Columbia

    A memorial service for Dale Thaggard Hair was planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, in the chapel of Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.
    The family planned to receive friends immediately following the service.
    Mr. Hair, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, May 21. He was 55.
    Born in Elizabethtown, he was a son of the late Margaret Hair Dennis and Daniel Slater Hair, Jr. He was a graduate of East Bladen High School and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education from East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C.
    He had currently been the Band and Orchestra director at Green Sea Floyds Middle/High Schools in Green Sea. He was the former director of Bands at Douglas Byrd High School in Fayetteville, Myrtle Beach High School in Myrtle Beach, and Brookland-Cayce High School in Cayce, as well as assistant director of Bands at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
    Mr. Hair held memberships in the South Carolina Band Directors Association, the American School Band Directors Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He was also a former member of the United States Figure Skating Association and former Executive Board member of the Palmetto Skate Club, in support of his daughter’s figure skating career.
    He is survived by his wife, Traci Hair, and daughter, Madalyn Hair of Columbia; sister, Meda Hair Raynor and her husband, Mark, of Raleigh; brothers, Daniel Slater Hair, III of High Point, Forest Erwin Hair and his wife, Jane, of Wilmington; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as his family of in-laws.
