Reece Coats: Loris

1939 – 2017
Reece Coats of Loris, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 5, at his home. He was 77.
Mr. Coats was born on March 6, 1939 in Loris, a son of the late Phillip Braxton Coats and the late Maggie Louise Johnson Coats Jordan.
Mr. Coats owned and operated Reece’s Body Shop for fifty-five years, he was a charter member of the Chicora Antique Car Club, and a longtime active member of Pleasant Meadow Baptist Church. He will be most remembered for his love of farming, telling jokes and family.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Lilly Coats of the home; son, Barry L. Coats and wife, Marsha of Loris; special son, Joey Faircloth of Loris; two brothers, Ray Coats and wife, Kay and Phil Coats, all of Loris; four grandchildren, Bridgett, Colby, Tara and Jerodd; three great-grandchildren, Brianna, Keith and Aden; two step-brothers, James Myron Jordan and Lloyd Jordan both of Loris; and two-step-sisters, Annette Norris of Tabor City, and Jacklyn Jordan of Conway.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Coats was predeceased by one son, Dennis Ray “Bulldog” Coats; daughter-in-law, Tammy Sue Grainger Coats and one brother, Henry Coats.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Tidelands Community Hospice, Tidelands Francis B. Ford Cancer Treatment Center, and Mr. Reece’s sister-in-law, Sarah M. Duncan for their tireless love and support during this difficult time.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at Pleasant Meadow Baptist Church with Pastor Mark George and Reverend Jamie Montgomery officiating. Committal services followed at Pleasant Meadow Cemetery.
