Mary “Beth” Bruton: Lake Waccamaw

1923 – 2022

     Mary Elizabeth “Beth” (Spivey) Bruton passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, in Lake Waccamaw. She was 99.

     She was born Jan. 8, 1923 in Columbus County, a daughter of the late John Furney Spivey and Kitsey Belle (Jacobs) Spivey.

     She was the former owner and operator of Mama’s Restaurant in Tabor City.

     She is survived by one son, John Gary “Jimmy” McMillan, Jr. of Lake Waccamaw; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; and some special friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Kitsey Belle Spivey; her first husband, John Gary McMillan; second husband, William “Bill” Bruton; one grandson; and twelve brothers and sisters.

     Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel, burial following in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

     Visitation was planned for the hour preceding the service in the chapel.
