James Raymond Duncan, Sr.: Loris

1940 – 2023

     James Raymond Duncan, Sr. of Loris passed away on Thursday, June 29. He was 82.

     Born July 20, 1940 in Lumberton, he was the son of the late Ernest Raymond Duncan and the late Daisy Suggs Duncan.

     Mr. Duncan loved playing the guitar, farming, gardening, fishing, and he worked as a carpenter until his retirement. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

     Survivors include his three children, James Raymond Duncan, Jr. (Joyce), Kenneth Ray Duncan, and Shirley Jean Hilburn (Kenny); five grandchildren, Brandy Graham, Amber Duncan, Dustin Martin, James Duncan, III, and Richie Duncan; eight loving great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Lloyd Duncan, Elder Ernest Duncan (Lois), Wanda Norris, and Evelyn Tyler.

     In addition to his parents, Mr. Duncan was predeceased by his ex-wife and mother to his three children, Bobbie Jean Duncan; step-mother who raised him, Shelby Duncan; and two siblings, Larry Duncan and Annie Lee Todd.

     Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 2, at Bethany Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Lewis and Rev. Mark Hughes officiating.

     Committal services were private.
