Thomas Howard Edwards: Tabor City

1940 – 2023

     Thomas “Tom” Howard Edwards of Tabor City died Wednesday, July 12, in UNC Chapel Hill Hospital. He was 83.

     Born Jan. 12, 1940 in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Daniel Elijah Edwards and Nettie Strickland Edwards and widower of Mary Elizabeth Ward Edwards.

     He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Edwards Jernigan (Marshall Gore) of Tabor City and April Edwards Taylor (Shayne) of Garner; one brother, David Edwards, Sr. of Locust; two sisters, Martha Worthen and Libby Peacock both of Charlotte; and two grandchildren, Kamryn Shaye Taylor and James Thomas “J.T.” Taylor.

     In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde Bud Edwards, and Daniel Phillip Edwards; two sisters, Dorothy Coleman and Sadie Breneman; and son in-law Lennox Jernigan.

     Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel, burial following in Myrtle Green Cemetery.

     Visitation was planned for the hour preceding services in the chapel.
