Billy Tompkins: Tabor City

1941 – 2023

     Billy Tompkins of Tabor City died Saturday, Sept. 23, in McLeod Loris hospital. He was 82.

     Born in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Pounce Tompkins and Pearl Cartrette Tompkins.

     He was member of Jones Street Missionary Baptist Church, Tabor City.

     He is survived by his wife, Esther F. Tompkins of Tabor City; three sons, Tony Tompkins (Angela), Mickey Tompkins (Kellie), Rickey Tompkins (Tera) all of Tabor City; three daughters, Angela Dudney (Charles) and Teresa Soles (Mike) of Tabor City, and Billie Fowler (Kent) of Bombay, Florida; twenty grandchildren; fifty great grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

     He was preceded in death by three brothers, Nathan Tompkins, Benny Tompkins, and Willie Tompkins; and four sisters, Mary Sellers, Essie Mae Bryant, Edith Bullock, and Jenette Fowler.

     Visitation was planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel.

     Funeral services were planned for 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel, burial following in Myrtle Green Cemetery, Tabor City.
