Lumina Smith Soles: Shallotte
1938 – 2023
Lumina Smith Soles of Shallotte passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, Oct. 7, surrounded by love. She was 84.
Lumina was born in Columbus County on Oct. 23, 1938 to the late Rev. Harvey Lay Smith and Irene Gore Smith.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death her two sisters, Wilhelmina Smith Cox of Tabor City (Dothan) and Annell Smith Brindell of Wilmington.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years Jackie (Jack) Wayne Soles of the home; a daughter, Angela (Angie) Leigh Soles of Little River; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her dearly.
Lumina was retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture after 31 years of service. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Shallotte for more than 40 years and served in many different roles, including treasurer for 17 years, choir member and as a long time prayer warrior.
A Celebration of Life Service was planned for 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at Calvary Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Joe Needham, burial following at Olyphic Baptist Church Cemetery, 19062 Seven Creeks Highway, Tabor City.
Pallbearers will be, William C. “Cleve” Cox IV, Wayne Murray, Erik Spivey, Jon-Kelly Rabon, Nick Ward and Andrew Scott.
Family planned to receive friends during the hour preceding the service at the cemetery.
