James Leving Strickland: Tabor City

1950 – 2023

James Leving Strickland of Tabor City went to his heavenly home on Monday, Oct. 16, at McLeod Seacoast hospital with his wife, daughter, and son by his side. He was 73.

He was the son of the late Lascoe Strickland and Martha Virginia Small Strickland.

James was a loving husband, father, “Pa James,” brother, and friend to many. James was a talented carpenter for more than 35 years. He will forever be remembered for the love he showed to others through his craftsmanship. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. You could often find them riding around the farm on the golf cart visiting the animals.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nanette M. Strickland of the home; one daughter, Natalie Frenier and husband Blake of Fuquay-Varina; a son, Colby Strickland and wife Jessica of Chadbourn; one brother, Eddie Strickland of Tabor City; four sisters, Penny Hunt of Conway, Mary Ann Curley of Hope Mills, Linda Hilburn and husband Ronnie of Cerro Gordo, and Emma Williamson and husband Carlton of Surfside Beach; and three grandchildren, Lance Strickland, Davis Strickland, and Kathryn Frenier.

Funeral services were planned for 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, in Cherry Grove Baptist Church, burial following in Cherry Grove Cemetery.

Visitation was planned for the hour preceding services in the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to your favorite charity or McLeod Hospice.
