Harry James Nelson: Tabor City

1951 – 2024

     Harry James Nelson of Tabor City died Friday, March 1, in Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach. He was 72.

     Born April 19, 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Louis James Nelson, Jr. and June Esther Weaver Nelson.

    He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp where he served for 26 years before retiring. He also was a member of DAV, Disabled American Veterans, and a member of University Baptist Church in Conway.

     He is survived by his wife, Cathy Mae Joyce Nelson of the home; two daughters, Cathaleen Graham (Byron) of Tennessee and Twana Culbreth (Richard) of Shelby; three brothers, Samuel Nelson, Leroy Nelson, and Norman Nelson, all of Baltimore, Maryland; one sister, Kathaleen Knight of Havelock; and four grandchildren, Trista Graham, devon Graham, Cayne Bailey, and Alexa Bailey.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.

     A celebration of life was planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel.

     Visitation was planned for the hour preceding the service in the chapel.
