1946 – 2024

Darryl “Poppa” Jarvis Hammond Sr. of Pawleys Island passed away on April 11, at Grand Strand Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was 77.

He was born Sept. 13, 1946 and was the son of the late William “Bill” Hammond and the late Louise McLean Hammond.

Poppa was an avid outdoorsman. He spent his days outside gardening, sailing, and teaching his friends and family how to waterski. He and Sandy spent time at the VFW serving his fellow veterans. Poppa will always be remembered as the life of the party and willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Left to cherish Poppa’s memory is his loving wife of 55 years, Sandy Hammond; a son, Darryl “Bike” Hammond; daughter Wendy “Woo” Hammond; grandson Sevin Garret; and granddaughters Sierra Wenrich and Hannah Wenrich.
