Levon Harris: Loris
1937 – 2024
Levon Harris of Loris passed away in his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, April 11. He was 87.
Born March 14, 1937, in Loris, he was the son of the late Thurman McKinley Harris and the late Lee Tyler Harris.
Mr. Harris spent his life farming tobacco, building homes, and working as a security guard for the Horry County Schools, with many years spent at Loris High School. He was a longtime active member at Cane Branch Church where he served in numerous capacities including deacon. He was generous to everyone in the community and especially his family, whom he cared for and loved dearly.
Survivors include his son, Glenn Edward Harris (his best buddy, Melissa); six grandchildren, Kayla Wiggins (Kevin), Kaitlin Nealey (Jonny), Jessica Anderson (Jamie), Cody Nealey, Eliza Santiago (Aiden), Evan Harris (Anna); nine great-grandchildren, Elena, Braylon, Bryson, Embri, Eli, Luke, Tatum, Stella, Josie; one great-grandchild on the way; and two special dogs, Roscoe and Shorty.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris was predeceased by his wife, Wilma Edwards Harris; two children, Steven Levon Harris and Wilma Michelle Harris; and seven siblings, Floyd Harris, Claude Harris, Roberta Harris Gerald, Ila May Harris, Nelda Faye Harris, Ernestine Williams, and Allene Hardee.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at Cane Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Jon Johnson and Rev. Ray Cribb officiating. Committal services followed at Cane Branch Cemetery.
