Lloyd Vernon Cook: Loris

1943 – 2024

     Lloyd Vernon Cook of Loris passed away on Sunday, Aug. 11, at his residence. He was 81.

     Born July 29, 1943, in Loris, he was the son of the late Hosea C. Cook and the late Mabel Porter Cook.

     Vernon was the owner and operator of his own trucking company, Cook’s Transportation Inc., and his CB handle was “Peacock”. He was an avid farmer and enjoyed attending car shows. He was a John Deere tractor and antique car collector. Vernon still owned his original 1972 GMC truck and his 1956 Chevy Bel Air.

     Survivors include his daughter, Dana Cook Faircloth (Chris); adopted daughter Emilee Cook; three grandchildren, Hannah Lewis, Kierstin Faircloth Cribb, and Courtney Cook; nine great-grandchildren, Ethan Cook, Kaylee Faircloth, Karson Lewis, Kaydyn Lewis, Sophia Brown, Princeston Cook, Zaccheaus Cook, Brooklynn Benson, and Elizabeth “Tater” Cribb; and sisters Wilma Kay (Ian), Thelma Herring (Roy), and Edna Cook.

     In addition to his parents, Mr. Cook was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Linda Faye Cox Cook; his son, Lloyd Darren Cook; granddaughters Brook LeAnne Cook and Alexis Nicole Cook; and brothers James Henry Cook, and Jason Devon Cook.

     Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Hardwick Memorial Chapel with Pastor Andy Bell and Pastor Jimmy Floyd officiating. Committal services followee at Twin City Memorial Gardens.
