Alice “Lori” Duncan (Summers): Loris

1961 – 2024

Alice “Lori” Duncan (Summers) of Loris went to the Moon, December 7, 2023.

Youngest daughter of the late Jesse and Alice Duncan of Tabor City; mother to three sons, Stephen and Jessie Johnson and Nathanial Summers; wife of Peter Summers; and beloved grandmother, aunt, sister and friend.

Lori grew up in Tabor City and was a majorette at Tabor City High School. Life took her gypsy soul wandering and after some time in West Virginia and Michigan, she returned to Loris to spend her final years in retirement.

At age 29 and holding is what she always said about her age, and that showed her playful nature we loved. Lori was known by her family as an avid gardener, an eclectic collector, a painter, a glazier, a sewist, just an all-around artist. I could write pages about this phenomenal woman and the fire she had inside her. There aren’t enough words to show her gratitude for what she taught us all. We love you Gma, and we are grateful for you and the encouragement you always gave us.

“She hid around corners, and she hid under beds

She killed it with kisses, and from it she fled

With every bubble, she sank with a drink and washed it away down the kitchen sink.

The dog days are over, the dog days are done.” – Florence and the Machine

Friday Sept. 13, Lori’s Spirit will sail through the ever-changing tides of the Atlantic Ocean. Always look for her in the rainbow.
