Betty Brown Smith: Loris

1947 – 2024

     Betty “Susie” Brown Smith of Loris passed away after an illness on Oct. 26 at McLeod Seacoast hospital. She was 77.

     Born Aug. 29, 1947, in Conway, she was the daughter of the late William Asbury Williams, Jr. and the late Isabelle Inman Williams Mishoe.

     She graduated from Conway High School in 1965. Mrs. Smith retired from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of South Carolina in 2007.

     Survivors include her loving husband, Gary Smith; three daughters, Jeanine Newbury (Nate), Tracy Kempski, and Kristi Johnson (Russell); step-daughter Stephanie Smith; step-son Gary Phillip Smith; a brother, Roger Williams (Donna); five grandchildren, Blake Cook (Kayla), Will Johnson, Sidney Johnson, Makayla Rodriguez, and Cayleigh Smith; and two greatgrandchildren, Hunter Cook and Kye Cook.

     In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her brother, Billy Williams; and son-in-law Stephen Alexander Kempski.

     A celebration of life service was planned for 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Hardwick Memorial Chapel.

     Family planned to receive friends during the hour preceding the service at the funeral home.

     Family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
